PRANA Therapeutic Yoga at
Newtown Wellness Collective

We invite you to explore Therapeutic Yoga with us!

Taking a therapeutic approach to yoga re-focuses the practice to cultivating deeper alignment with yourself, regulating your nervous system, and increasing your vital life force energy (prana).  We approach therapeutic yoga from two unique perspectives - one that honors somatics & science, and one that follows ancient Yoga tradition for whole wellness .  Learn more below, and explore our classes!

Where science, therapy & yoga intersect

Elaine Gallas, Somatic Psychotherapist, RYT, Director of PRANA Yoga Studio

Elaine is a licensed mental health professional, incorporating somatic work and nervous system regulation, to increase therapeutic self-discovery through yoga with a basis in psychological wellness.

Bringing harmony across mind, body & spirit

Jen Rizza, RYT, Reiki Master Teacher, Founder of Newtown Wellness Collective

Jen teaches from the yoga therapy lens, rooted in Yoga tradition for whole wellness, addressing imbalances that block optimal health at the physical, energetic, mental, emotional and spiritual levels.

Additional yoga classes hosted by our practitioners are all therapeutic in nature and taught from a trauma-informed perspective.  Therapeutic yoga is complementary and does not replace traditional therapy.  See FAQs below.

FAQs

How is this different than regular yoga?

Many standard yoga classes focus on the body-mind union, emphasizing the physical movement (asana), and touching on breath and relaxation through savasana. At PRANA Therapeutic Yoga, we come closer to the origins of yoga, stepping more deeply into practices that nurture your whole wellness across the dimensions of body, mind, emotions, energy and spirituality (and with a little bit of science!).

Is there still yoga?

Yes! Though in therapeutic yoga, you focus on listening to your body's wisdom, to honing this relationship, and moving in the way that feels best for you. The movements are often gentler and invite inquiry. There's no 'right way' to do therapeutic yoga.

What can I expect in a class?

What else is there?

All our therapeutic yoga classes start by establishing autonomy, recognizing that the entire class is an invitation, intended to land in the way that best supports YOU. You can expect some guided meditation, space for observing your experience, gentle movement, breath awareness, invitation to awaken self-compassion, and for the practices to feel supportive rather than directive.

Mindfulness. Meditation. Reflection. Breathwork. Through yoga therapeutics, there's emphasis on bringing balance to mind, body, energy, emotions and opening to greater connection and compassion for yourself (and others).
