Service Description
Yoga for Healthy Aging: Prevention & Recovery Date: Fridays Time: 8:30-9:45am Instructor Facilitator: Jen Rizza, RYT Advanced Therapeutic Yoga, Yin & Restorative Specialty, Reiki Master Teacher, Wellness & Lifestyle Coach Class Description: Yoga for Healthy Aging - Taught in the style of the Kripalu School of Integrative Yoga Therapy, Jen leads this 75 minute class using varied yoga-based tools to help you own your healthy aging experience. Did you know? Starting a yoga practice in your 40s can significantly change how you experience aging! And if you’re already moving through your golden years, adding these yoga practices can improve or sustain your quality of life, your ability to remain independent and give you skills to stay compassionate and age gracefully. Therapeutic benefits include: ~Participants will move through yoga postures for strength, balance, agility and flexibility, four significant physical markers for healthy aging ~Explore practices such as guided meditation and breathwork to promote a balanced nervous system, supporting immune and heart health ~Practices to promote neuroplasticity and cognitive health ~Tools to address inflammation from stress, a leading cause of premature aging ~Space to explore self-compassion, grace, equanimity, acceptance and non-judgement as foundations for a healthy mindset about aging Class is offered with or without a chair. Both styles will be demonstrated - it’s your choice which you prefer, and perhaps a bit of self-inquiry (Svadhyaya) may provoke you to make a different choice each day. And don’t let common misconception dissuade you – chair yoga does not mean it’s easy yoga! Using a chair invites us to practice non-judgement (Santosha), to welcome support in our highest good (non-violence/Ahimsa), and to promote acceptance of the present moment (Aparigraha). THAT is living your Yoga!
