About the event
90 minute workshop, in-person, in-studio
Stress is a natural part of day to day life and it's easy to get stuck in autopilot, disconnected from what our bodies are trying to tell us. Somatic work offers the opportunity for attuning to the body's natural ability to regulate, decompress, and heal. Strategies will be reviewed to help you listen to what your body needs and respond accordingly with specific approaches/techniques tailored to these needs. Various forms of movement, stretching, tapping/touch, eye movements/visualizations, and breathing techniques will be offered and demonstrated, and you'll be able to practice using them on your own. Â Elaine will also have take-home goodies for grounding and regulation, tools to continue your self-support after the class.
The workshop will begin with guided meditations and body scans for relaxation. Â Elaine will share psycho-education about the relaxation techniques presented and guide you through healthy coping strategies to regulate the nervous system. Â The emphasis will be on Somatic Embodiment (connecting body and mind - 'soma' is the greek word for body) through light and gentle movement, which can be done standing, sitting, or on a yoga mat.Â
